How to install Simulte Step by step

 What is Simulte?

SimuLTE is an innovative simulation tool enabling complex system-level performance-evaluation of LTE and LTE Advanced networks (3GPP Release 8 and beyond) for the OMNeT++ framework.  SimuLTE is written in C++ and is fully customizable with a simple pluggable interface. SimuLTE is an open-source project building on top of OMNeT++ and INET Framework. You can find more details about Simulte on official website .

Dependencies:

The current master/head version requires either of
  • OMNeT++ 5.0 and INET 3.4
  • OMNeT++ 5.1 and INET 3.5

System Requirements

SimuLTE can be used on any system compatible with OMNeT++ (Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X).

SimuLTE requires:

  • OMNeT++ v5.1
  • INET-Framework v3.5
It is good to mention to install OMNeT++ v5.1 it is easier to install on Ubuntu 16.04 which you can easily download the ISO file from Ubuntu website.

Figure I illustrates the architecture of the system. In the OS layer, you should install the operating system which here I suggest you to use Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.  Simulation layer composed of two sub-layers framework layer which here is OMNETpp and Package layer that includes of Simulte, INET framework, and veins.

How to install Omnet++:

(If you are looking for the latest version of Omnet++ on Ubuntu 18.04 you can find it in this link. How to install OMNET++ ) But as already mentioned to install simulte you need a specific version of Ubuntu and Omnet.

Open your terminal in Ubuntu and then copy and paste these lines.

Then enter your password.

Now you should update QT, then just copy and paste the following lines in your terminal:

open a new terminal change your directory to your download directory:

Download Omnet++ version 5.1.1 with this command or from here.

Now unzip the downloaded OMNET file:

Go inside the unzipped directory:

Set the environment:

Add the following line at the end of the file, then save it:

Now copy the path which is /home/user/Downloads/omnetpp-5.1.1

instead of the user, you will see your current username.

Copay and paste this line in your terminal:(Only change user with your current username)

Now close the current terminal which is very important

Open your terminal in Ubuntu and then copy and paste these lines.

open a new terminal:

Now it’s a right time to configure your omnet++ through this line:

After this commend you should be able to see this message in figure II:

As the last step you should insert this line in your terminal which this step based on your system configuration takes around 20 to 30 minutes:

When this step completed you should be able to run the OMNET++ with this command.

Up to here we successfully install Omnet++ on the Ubuntu now it is a time to download and install Simulte.

How to download and install SimuLte on Omnet++:
